Default Mic/Headset Halp

Yeah there's probably a gazillion of these threads, but I just decided to make a new one for the sake of it.

Always hear everyone saying Turtle Beaches and all that are shite for a mic/headset, but I don't really wanna spend more than 50 quid on one. Basically need a half decent mic/headset for PS3 and working with PC too(pretty sure most can do that?)

Hugs and cookies are in it for helping out this clueless eejit.

Honestly TB's aren't total shite, I do think they are somewhat overpriced but if you find a decent pair online or something i'd tap it buy it. Unless you're like a super cereal gamer which I don't think you totally are because you fucking suck at call of duty

otherwise I'd rec. the TB X11's, got mine online for 40 bucks, stores its 60, but online right now in the US its 80 for some reason (i didnt look very hard though)

My TB's are great, sure you can by better but for £58 i am very impressed.
I have had no issues with mine and consider them great value (had them 8 months and they are newer than brand). I do know a couple of people who have had issues over build quality but is probably them mistreating them. If you buy the Ps3 ones you can use them with pc but they need jack for headphones and mic runs from usb.

I was satisfied with my PX21's until I threw them and they hit something much tougher than they were =/

Get some Corsair HS1s if you can, although be careful as there are two versions, one USB and one Analogue.

Good sound and decent quality mic for about £50. Won't get anything with much better value tbh.

I have the Sennheiser PC151's and am very pleased with them. I believe I've written a more in-depth review of them somewhere on the forum. My only qualm is that the mic boom cannot be rotated so you must wear them with the boom on the left side. Since the US dollar is so weak, you could certainly afford them. Iirc I paid $65 for mine.

Thank you wonderful people for the awesome advice, i've been looking around a bit about the Corsair HS1s and the Sennheiser's Ghost suggested and people seen unsure if they will work on PS3 O_o any reason why they wouldn't? I assumed if they were USB they would work fine.

Not wanting to tread on toes but I don't think it's a case of saying "TB are f***ing awwwssuuuum" or "sh*te" it's just people are comparing cheap TV speakers with headphones. Headphones and speakers are two very different things.

What people mean to say is "wow, using surround sound effect headphones where the speakers cost more than 5 pence to manufacture & clamped to your ears so, unlike a speaker system, the sound remains direced where it is supposed to go and does not bounce all over the room is amaaazzziiinnngggg"

What they then shorten that to is "*insert product they bought here* is aaawwwsuuummm." Instead they just assume it's all down to them being turtlebeach. FACT: Plug any headphones into COD and you will immediately hear footsteps from 40 meters away and be able to judge the direction very well.

In that case they have $20 TBs, idk, I'd just drop 50 for one of those suggested here, its worth it

With that low a budget, just get the priciest Sennheisers you can find. You can't really go wrong with them since they're good at all price points.

Not all gaming headsets are good enough. Despite being able to plug any headphone into a ps3 and hearing footsteps 40m away. All headsets are not equal.
FACT. If you plug any old headset into a ps3 the results vary a lot. Tried and tested.
For a start If you are plugging into the playstation and not out of the tv (sound is better if you don't)you need to make sure they have a volume on them. Ones without are often to quiet. Also the quality of the mic varies a lot. For you and the person you are speaking to. Often cheap headsets are not good for the people on the other end to listen to. Sound spikes, piercing noises and static are what I heard on the other end with cheap sets. Also cheap hsets often have the volume set to low on the mic and you cant hear your teamates. I paid £58. My friend has tried many headsets that have cost a lot less and they were all shit. Not saying buy TB's as the others people have mentioned are poss even better, I have tried senheiser on pc and they were great.
I am saying, any old headset will not do.
