I bought a CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer Case and it seems to be getting the job done (but since I have little experience building computers my thoughts may be invalid). I suppose I will be the first one to ask but what's your budget?

Edit: Needs moar

Behold, a hoard of 8 RAMs.

About the budget; it's a hazy estimate but probably around £1,000.

i'd go with an i5 2500k for gaming. Most tech sites say that the i5 is best for the money when it comes to gaming plus it's cheaper than the 960

I've also heard this about the i5 so would be a good consideration if you want to chop down your budget a wee bit.

Thanks for the help guys.

I have been considering the i5 2500k for a while so I'll have a more in depth look at it when I get back from work (gotta go now so I don't have time to talk) and I'll try that set up, Wunda, the price is mighty enticing.

Lololololololol, I had RAM up there but I seem to have cropped it off the list by accident when I was adding pretty red to my new updates o_O;

Don't you need a keyboard as well. I seem to remember you throwing one at a "friend" during a LAN party at some point in time.

Nuh uh, the friend backwards headbutted my keyboard... oh the nerve!

Alright got some time now to look for the remainder of the components. I plan on buying a small SSD just for the OS for the speed/stability(?) is it worth it?

Also I will get at least 1TB or maybe 2TB, should I buy separate HDD's, i.e. 2x 500GB/1TB or just one single big HDD?

Generally 1 tb hdd's are cheaper than buying 2 500gb hdd's. However if you want to set your 500's in RAID then go for that.

How much porn do you plan on downloading?

Fixed.

Because it's you HBK, you might need two or three of those drives that I recommended.

I also have a coolermaster (HAF912) and I reckon they're bloody brilliant...... and a lot cheaper than Antec, in price but not quality. I'd say you're paying too mcuh at £125 for a case, it doesn't need to be that shit hot, surely even HBK doesn't use his tower to try and get laid?

* Almost-the-fastest-i7
* 12GB o' RAM
* A case costing the equivilant of 838 freddo chocolate bars

All for the person that gets bored of their gaming PC and sells it after a few months, only to play on a GeForce 8400m GS (the most hated GFX card in recent history) equipped laptop?

I wish I could fit the last few replies in my siggy LMAO.

I never really had a decent gaming rig, or a gaming rig in itself really. Then there's the difference between US/UK prices to Brazil's that make everything look so ridiculously enticing, I honestly can't help myself to fancy (for me anyway) hardware.

I haven't bought that stuff yet due to:

1) the case, I love the look of it + so many fans + red LED's + the easy access to the CPU cooler but I know its somewhat the Apple of mid-towers.

2) I'm out of decent space dedicated to building the rig I'm in the process of clearing old furniture and things out of the house right now.

3) I'm thinking of trying cheaper alternatives since you guys all agree.

But I refuse to buy any CPU that does not have hyper threading ;P

I play around with the prices then.

And abc I won't get bored this time o_O;

Also, porn aside, I have a couple dozen TB's dedicated to it already so - Does anyone really fill up a more than 1TB of storage?

Or £653.58 to be delivered next day.

Could go with the i7 2600k if you want hyper threading Basically that and the i5 2500k are great for gaming..

AW GAWD SO MANY CHOICES.

Eff it I'll get the i2600k, it's £50 more than the i960 but I'm already set back £900 anyway.

EDIT: Ok I'm getting another case but I can't decide between the two candidates the Coolermaster HAF 922 or HAF X, which one? D:

EDIT 2: I chose the CM HAF X case - found a nice deal that reduced the cost by ~£80
HAF X full tower + i7 2600k + CM GX 750W PSU for £400

EDIT 3: Got a P67 mobo compliant to i2600k 1155 and went back to 8GB(2x4GB) RAM to get the best out of the Sandy Bridge platform.

Altogether I removed a little over £100 off the final cost for my specs

£80 is a heck of a lot just because you want hyperthreading But seriously...

P.S. I'd just like to be a smarty pants and point out that I had a HT'ing proccessor 8 years ago :L HT was/and-in-it's-2nd-incarnation is aight, but you'd get far more real-world satisfaction out of spending that £80 on a mouse, surround sound (I don't care if you use/prefer a headset for MP etc, having a decent speaker setup and with a room-shaking sub brings things like beach landings and general gunfire (D-Day COD2, Okinawa landings in WaW, Cargo ship mission in COD4) to another level), two inches more of screen, hell a 64GB SSD, a gaming mouse mat or a nice chair. "Dawn sauf" you could even buy 12 gallons of petrol!

The 2600k performs exactly the same as the 2500k in games. It really is a waste of £80.

Furthermore, the HAF X is technically quite good, but it is ugly as FUCK, and is huge. Pointless, tbh for your purposes. Get a CM 690-II or a Fractal Design R3 or Lancool Dragonlord PC-K62. Much better looking and all just as fit for purpose. That would also allow you to get a decent PSU. That GX750 is only bundled with the HAF X because it wouldn't sell otherwise. It got pretty poor reviews and there are much better alternatives (the ones I suggested above).

Seriously, you'll be hard pushed to get any better performance/value out of what I specced.

@ Oz: I won't be upgrading anything for a while

@ Babez: We be responsible for the ultimate destruction of the community and universe, but hell we may create a couple more in the process

@ Abc: I'm stubborn D;
SSD is on the way!

@ Wunda: I love the look of the HAF X!

I do sorta regret buying the GX 750W as I seen some negative feedback before I bought it, but I couldn't help myself, I had to get the HAF X :/

You're not pro unless the sides are off the tower anyway so what difference does the look of it make.
