For me it always just works out the way the cookie crumbles. On rig 3 from 2003~ Intel/ATI was very popular, 2006 AMD/nVidia was the best value for money, 2008 AMD/ATI best value for money.

Intel-nVidia on my first PC
Intel-ATI on my current. The ATI was for the 4850 and the 8400 seemed to be a reasonable CPU for the price from what i'd heard. I was leaning towards Phenom II at one point though.

Ah crap I voted at the wrong choice >.> well anyway I prefer Intel + nVidia, I just like them together for some reason, as I don't know a rat's ass about computing, for me it seems they run a lot faster on my computers than when I had the AMD + ATI installed.

AMD/Nvidia... Have used that combo ever since I ditched my old pentium 2 and RageII system 14 or 15 years ago (might have even been a first generation pentium thinking about it?). I've still got the RageII graphics card in a box, it's got a whopping 8mb of graphics memory! Still works too... I know because I use it as a vga card (fits in a PCI slot) when I'm building a server
![]() Using an Nvidia chipset mobo with an AMD CPU, and nvidia GPU... Sticking with it for my next upgrade... Motherboard (tri SLi ready), CPU (Black edition AMD Phenom II quad 965 @ 3.4GHz stock) and RAM will probably set me back about £300. Will keep the GPU I've got for now...

yeah I was thinking in the other thread that the 590 is getting on a bit now, but it's SLI and being such a high end board at the time it should be able to do 2 lanes @ x16 surely? 1440x900 isn't ideal for SLI though, but at second hand 9800GTX+ prices it's worth a punt.

Yeah it's an old board, but it's been a solid performer for the last couple of years
![]() And yes, both lanes are x16... I need a bigger monitor to fully apreciate the SLI capabilities though... The main bottle neck (and it's not much of a bottle neck) is my CPU... Because my board's a Foxconn, there's not been a bios update since the year before I bought it, so no quad core support for me. My mate on the other hand had a 570 SLI chipset, but that was made by gigabyte... They released a bios update and he could stick a quad core on his ![]() Every game I own plays at maximum settings... Except GTA4, and it's the CPU letting me down on that. I still manage high settings, with view distances at medium to high, at my monitors max res, and a not too bad 30-40fps... When I eventually get round to upgrading my GPU, I'll probably go for a 275/285 and use my GTX+ as a physx card

Intel / nVidia Last system I built (before this one duh!) Was an AMD/ATI It never really preformed as I hoped. It lasted 3 years before I retired it. But it struggled with any light multitasking (like with more than 2 or 3 different applications or 2 or more instances of IE / FF)

I do not know. That what I heard. But I am running the nForce 700 Series in my current rig.

Intel are in the process of suing nvidia, to stop them making chipsets that support the yet to be released CPU's... There's a thread about it here.
