stupidest component/thing you've ever bought?
It's a quite a toss up, I almost have a shortlist. I'm trying to think but all of the things that've been bad have plus points. Even the £130 GeForce 8600GT (massive rip off in retrospect) had a plus point - better value than ATI equivilant, fastest card PSU could take at the time. The "winner" (or rather loser) is probably my mobo. Whilst being cheap, having RAID, PCIe 2.0, amazing for overclocking etc etc it is not crossfire (can only have 1 GFX card) and my GFX card now costs £50. so +£50 and I could have two that beat a GTX280... At the time though (bought it for £90) I would never imagine after paying an extra £40 for a CF mobo that i'd ever get aroudn to paying another £70 or so for an "old" GFX card for crossfire, but then again I never knew HD5800 would be so expensive. Actually the stupidest thing is probably myself. I probably paid around £100 extra to have a system that is rather top notch for overclocking, and here I am thinking about a new GFX card and I haven't even overclocked my current one which one of the reasons I bought it was because it is one of the best overclockers in recent times.

I gave my friend a quarter for an old cable that happened to be the same one that plugs in the back of my computer... I'm to computer illiterate to try to get involved with any other higher forms of this conversation.

Yep, probably my mobo as well. It's a P45 with PCI-e 2.0 and 5.1 sound. But again, it doesn't support CrossFire, and since 4850s are so cheap now I would definitely buy another. Ah well, a lesson learned.

For me I would say a el cheapo KVM switch that I thought had all the cables with it. When I got it I realized that it didn't so now I have to go buy another KVM since buying all the cables will cost more than a replacement kvm with it included.

The 8600GT came with the computer. I bought it with the PC as an upgrade from intergrated, hence I accept it may have been a little overpriced.
Nevertheless all the reviews/benchmarks on release state the price as £100-£120~ so i guess you must have bought it a bit later after release than you thought?

i bought Black and White 2 for my PC a few years ago. found out i couldn't play it on my laptop (screen went all weird and crashed) so about a year or so later i get a brand new laptop which i know will run it and i think hey why don't i try and play it now? so i install it start playing and it crashes again (in a different place though) it sucked really bad. i thinkk the disk is faulty or something.
