Question PC: Sound Recording Problem.

Hey.

I'd like to record gameplay videos of games i play, especially when Modern Warfare 2 comes out

I tried Fraps but it could't record sound and i wasn't willing to pay that amount of money for the full version (it can be used on games, remember) so i use Xfire.

Well right now i have some problems with recording sound. In all games i play i can't record any sound at all. Only the video. I'd like to find out what the problem is and i hope you guys can help me.

I use a sound card which is the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 HIFI.

I'm sorry for any misspellings since English isn't my main language.

Thanks in advance.

Ideally you want to have sounds outputting directly into your recording. IIRC FRAPs does actually have this option. (I don't know if there is a breakdown in communication here, but FRAPs can be used in games)

otherwise the only other method is to use a microphone to record your speaker, but obviously that is less than ideal.

This is getting repetitive.

Hmm yeah. But how do i do that? I'd rather not use my mic to record the sound from my speakers cause they aren't the best and i'd much rather play with a headset

I normally use Fraps. But have tried this software before it's called WeGame. It is free and works very well. I Don't know that it would fix your problem but it's free and wouldn't hurt to try.
And also in COD games you can record a demo through the game it's self. You don't need any other software. Plus it doesn't effect your FPS of the game and make it lag. If you ever catch some one hacking or cheating and want to report them to Punk Buster it has to be done by a in game demo.
Here is how you do it. You press the tilde key to open the console (which must be turned on in your game options). And then just type in these commands to start and stop the demo.
/record
/stoprecord

There is some steps for setting up your game to watch the demos and for binding certain key's so that all you have to do is hit 1 key to start and stop the record instead of opening the console and all. Here is a good guide for that. Hope this helps.

WeGame, a free Fraps alternative - Record Games, Capture Games, Game Record, and much more!

With COD4 it is saved here "Call Of Duty 4/main/demos" Might not be the same for MW2 but I couldn't see it being changed. And there is a simple way to watch the demos if you want to replay them, for COD4 that is. Just go to this link and download the app. The first link is a direct link to the download the second is to the app page.

Like I said in the previous post the easiest way to play the demo's is to download that app, and install it. It's a small file. There maybe others like it if you go to google and search for them, but I'm not sure. I just save the file to my desktop. Extract it and then you are good to go. Just click on the shortcut for it and choose your file. Hope that helps.

Sorry I hadn't noticed your post earlier. When I posted all of that I thought you just wanted to share with your friends by sending them the file. Didn't know you wanted to post to Youtube. Sorry.

The only way I know to convert them is like the other posters have said is by watching them while using Fraps. I know your sound doesn't work but most people on Youtube add music to their game videos. Let me ask you a few questions that my be the problem and maybe some of us can help you.

How do you have your record settings set on Fraps set?

I'll post a pic of mine so you can see if yours are similar.

What OS are you running on your comp?

Some people that have Vista have problems with Fraps recording sound. I have Vista 64 bit Ultimate and have my recording device set to my headset microphone. I remember seeing some where that your default recording device is the potential problem, when getting no sound with Fraps on Vista.

Do you have a after market sound card? If so which 1?

If so you may need to disable it and just use the on board sound.

Hope this is of some help. And sorry for the long post lol.

Thank you.

I tried a lot of things. I set my record settings to Stereo Mix but the second i start recording (fraps, xfire, wegame) it sets it back to microphone. The ingame record function works.

My OS is Windows XP Proffesional
My Soundcard is Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1

Do me a favor and disable your sound card. Use the on board sound and see if that fixes your problem.

If you want to record audio in fraps or xfire, you need to make sure you enable "Stereo Mixing" in your audio control panel. Where this option is differs depending on your sound device though... It will also mean that you will be recording other sounds on your computer, voice chat over vent/TS for instance...
