Default Dodgy fraps performance

Short question, but it's really bugging me:

Sometimes I don't even notice fraps running, litterally giving me 0FPS loss.
Other days fraps just fails completly & I drop to 5-10FPS.

This seems to be completly random & unfortunatly I get more bad days than good ones. Since I want to record games on a more consistent base, I really want to get this sorted.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

I'm curious how you know FRAPs is causing you to drop 5 - 10 frames?

This is getting repetitive.

Feels like that, not the actual indication. My point is that it drops so low, it becomes completly unplayable.

Try using a program called Gamebooster. i use it on my laptop and it gives me a higher FPS on games my laptop can barely manage. just make sure FRAPS is unticked on the program so it dosnt close it.

Any chance you record with fraps that makes your FPS drops? Just to be sure.

Fraps will become red if you are recording, yellow if you are not. Just incase you didnt knew.

he means that he will be recording and he dosnt notice a FPS drop at all, not that hes just got fraps in background not recording.

Huh?

My issue is, when Im recording footage with fraps, sometimes it works really well & I don't even notice it being on. Though most of the time, it rapes my framerate badly, making it impossible to record & play.

Yeh, short summary:

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2,4Ghz
3,00 GB DDR2 ram
8800GTX
My HD is at 7200RPM I believe.

Though I really have no idea what causes the problem. If it would be a pc-perfomance problem, I'd never be able to record anything. Yet I've recorded many times that I really notice no frameloss at all.

Could be to do with the map?

I find when I record on Estate I take a massive FPS hit but on Skidrow I don't even notice it.

Nope, tested that before to.
It just seems completely random.

I sent a mail to fraps self now, hopefully they'll reply >.>

I believe so, not the very latest (the 3.1.1, got like 3.0.3 I think), but it's been an issue with every version I used so far >.>

Hey,

Thanks alot for the swift response, though unfortunatly I've already tried everything that you mentioned

1. The problem occurs in every game I try. From ancient games like counter-strike 1.6 to World of Warcraft to Modern Warfare 2.

2. Using the latest release of fraps. I also tested it with older releases & it was the same. I tested 3.1.2 in the meantime already to btw.

3. Already had the latest drivers. I also had it with older versions of my driver.

4. My HD automaticly defrags every week, so that can't be the issue either.

5. I've tried both using the second hard drive in my computer & even an external one through USB. Neither changed anything.

6. I've just finished trying that. With the FPS marker ingame shown in modern warfare 2:

A/ At my normal settings I had 90FPS constantly (capped), when activating fraps it dropped to 10-15FPS.
B/ When I turned literally everything down to the lowest possible, lowest possible resolution, lowest detail, no AA, etc.. I had the exact same performance. Normal FPS 90, when frapsing 10-15 again.
I also doubt that it is a performance issue, as I have a pretty good system & the issue occurs both in the most recent games like MW2 & ancient games like CS 1.6.

Also I'd like to stress again that the weirdest thing is that sometimes my performance while frapsing is flawless. I barely even notice it being on. Yet 9 out the 10 times I try to turn fraps on, the framerate drops like a brick.

Not sure if this is an email adress that I can reply to, so I'll submit this through the website again to, just to be sure.

Thanks for your assistance so far, while it might not have solved alot yet, I appreciate that there are still company's out there who actually take the time to help out ;p

Regards

Ewald Gielen
