As yall may or may not know I'm a PC gamer but I stumbled across this as I read my newspapers for the day. Just a friendly heads-up. Not sure if this has been posted.

Sony has told owners of older models of its PlayStation 3 console to stop using the machine because of a problem with the PlayStation Network.

Glad I have a slim.
Worth pointing out tho that I had this same problem last week with the slim model. (Same as in not getting on PSN with the error "you have been signed out of PSN").

Doubt it will be the same thing.

This sounds much worse but I hope i will be a quick fix and hopefully server side. I've had my PS3 for over 2 years so I think it is out of warranty if it has to be replaced.

signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
