Default A Fatal Hardware Error [CPU]

Yo, so over the past 3 days the only game i've been playing is CoD4, also over the past 3 days, once a day my PC has been totally freezing whilst the aforementioned game is in full swing forcing a manual restart.

One retarting my PC and checking the Event Logs, the cause of the malfunction appears to be my CPU (an Intel E8400). A picture of the Event Viewer log is provided below for your viewing pleasure.

Spoiler:

Now, if you're an observant soul you may notice that the image above lists the Processor ID as 0. At the same time as this error I also get to other, one that lists the source as Processor ID 1 and another which lists is as zero. I assume that both cores fail simultaneously. I don't have their temperatures at the time of the failure but their idle temps are 34 and 37 degrees Celsius.

Any actions I need to take?

I would run a stress test first. Something like Prime 95 for several hours, if you have the time or you can leave your PC on all night.

UPDATE: Temps on Core 0 seem fine, 39 degrees at the time of the crash last time. For whatever reason Core 1 provided a constant reading of 0 degrees...

The dodgy temp reading looks like the fault of the motherboard to me. What software are you using to measure?

Use realtemp for intel 45nm chips. Or is the advice susposed to be "user coretemp for intel chips because realtemp gives false readings." In all seriousness, I think it's "you shouldn't use any CPUid based program because these give false readings on 45nm Intel Core2 chips." As vis rightly mentioned, it's hardly unknown for motherboards to come with dodgy/incompatible sensors.

It's not the end of the world now baby, but you probably can't see it from here either... Mmm, that was tenuous. Whilst that error message may sound 100% like the CPU is literally broken, previous "Fatal Hardware Errors" with my GFX card have been caused by the driver causing the hardware to fatally malfunction and the hardware being fine. There are usually multiple "hotfixes" available for CPUs. Look on intel's website.

This is getting repetitive.

Perhaps i'm doing it wrong but in the Download Center menu dealy i'm not getting anything that looks like firmware updates or anything. The scanner thing doesn't even detect my CPU.
