Cutting the story short: around last week I was playing MW2 LAN with a friend in my house, and I smashed my mouse and keyboard at his face due to me not being able to cope with a brief bullshit overflow caused by his knife.
The keyboard is fine, but it messed up my mouse and I can't hit jack sh*t with my TAR. FML So I was wondering if the more experienced PC sharpshooters could help me decide what I should buy. I focused in the following: Logitech MX518 Logitech® MX 518 Optical Gaming Mouse Razer Abyssus Razer Abyssus High Precision Optical Gaming Mouse | 3500dpi Razer Precision? 3.5G Infrared Sensor | - English Razer Lachesis Razer Lachesis? Gaming Mouse - English I'm not a serious gamer so I'm looking for something not too pr0 complicated Hopefully with a better mouse I'll get to kill ViS w/o the need for Bunny Hoping & Steady Aim ^_^

Newer mice like the Razers may have silly DPI figures and look better, but don't underestimate the absolute steal that is the MX519 for £25.

Yeah I was thinking to myself before if the 3500 - 4000 DPI were overkill for me, do you actually use anything over 1800 DPI ?

I'm using a Deathadder right now, and I don't use 3500 DPi, I'm on 1800 DPI. You don't need much more. Now when it comes to deciding it depends on a few factors. Firstly, How do you hold the mouse? Fingertip grip, claw grip or palm grip? Are your hands big or small? And do you already have a nice mousemat? Most of the high-end mice will be pointless if your pad ain't up to it.
I have a razer exactmat at the moment, and it serves me well and is very durable (good for LAN and stuff, only it's slightly less portable). You don't need to be too picky about this though. As for mice, I'd avoid the lachesis as it's reportedly plagued by tracking issues and the symmetrical shape isn't for all people. I had a logitech Mx518 and I'll share some thoughts on it: 1). AWESOME DEAL. The amount of features you get for that price is astounding, so if you change your mind about the mouse, you won't have wasted too much moneys. 2). feels quite cheap after a while. The gloss mouse clicking surface REALLY bugged me and led to discomfort and sliding around after eating chips. ( )3). the idea of the thumb contour is nice, but whether it works or not for your hand is another story. I have fairly small hands, and instead of placing my thumb in the grip, I ended up placing it on the ridge below as it gave me more control. However, it is quite awkward doing that for so long. 4). The logitech logo on the back the mouse bugged me too. The fact it sticks out so much made it annoying for using palm grip. 5). There isn't enough click space. If you've seen a razer mouse, you'll know that the buttons are massive and have nice comfortable dips for the fingers. Logitech is the opposite. These buttons are small and slidy, which again for some of my friends made palming the mouse hrader - they tended to switch to claw grip against their will. 6). The pads on the bottom of the mouse have little grooves on the edge of them that are perfect for getting crumbs and bits stuck in them. It's also very hard to get these bits out, and leads to a grinding sensation when using the mouse. 7). The buttons may be hard to reach for some, like me. Then again I have small hands so it may just be a result of my finger fail. 8). The sensitivity up buttons is stupidly placed - in front of the scroll wheel. This made it hard for me to quickly adjust in the heat of battle. 9). The scroll wheel isn't at all grippy, so it also suffers from the chippy fingers syndrome. 10). it's ugly as fuck. What the hell were logitech thinking when they designed the colour scheme for this thing?! 11). The software is pretty average 12). The distinct logitech 'hump' shape may not be for you. It's a mouse much more suited to palm grippers than finger tip style. Well, I think you get the idea! If you're considering this mouse, IGNORE EVERY USER REVIEW YOU SEE (excluding mine of course ). These guys are just being blinded because it's cheap and everyone else loves the mouse. And most of them haven't tried anything better. Sure, it is a good deal, but after a month of using it I sold it to a friend and got myself a Deathadder. This mouse is much better, but only in terms of shape and ergonomics. There are less features and buttons of this mouse, but the sheer sexyness of this beast makes up for it. I'm not a mad user of macros and other buttons on mice, so the simple style of the Deathadder pleased me. In terms of body shape, it's much better IMO. Let me explain: 1). The mouse clicking area is big and sculpted perfectly to fit my fingers without any cramps. 2). the sides don't have any annoying rims to get in my way, so the flattish ones here were far more comfortable. Although good, they are made of glossy plastic, which kinda pisses me off. I'm still trying to devise a rubber panel to add to the sides. 3). The top is a matte plastic thing, so no chippy clicky going on here. 4). The mouse wheel has ridges in it that give grip. Even less chippy clicky here. 5). IT IS FUCKING SEXY From what i say you may be put of the logitech, but most of my complaints are about it fitting my hands and grip. It might be different for you, and you might not eat chips while gaming so chippy clicky may not a problem. But the thumb contour on the body either fits you or it doesn't. If you like it, then logitech mice are probably better for you. Any yes I like chips.

LOL so after saying a mouse is all about your handsize and style of holding it (very true) the MX518 is shit because it's too big for your hands and optimised for not the type of grip you use?

I think I worded my post quite poorly lolz. I meant that it's shit for me mainly, but that there are still some design flaws that could bug anyone. Like the glossy top for example. I kinda made a bit too much of a big deal about the mouse really!
![]() But my main points are: Don't buy the hype straight away, there are still plenty of flaws I think. Check your hand grip and size so you don't fail like I did. (goes with any mouse, but moreso with this one since the side contours are more specific to hand shape than other mice) don't eat so many chips

I have the lachesis and yes some tracking issues for sure. It is an ambi mouse, iirc razer doesn't have leftie mice which is why I got it. Logitech makes great stuff so I'd go with that.

The G500 pretty much solves all of the issues I have with the mx518, since the thumb scoop is shallower and has more room for all sorts of thumbs, and it ain't got the sticky gloss top. It's also a very good value mouse for all the features you get, like weights.

The Deathadder is still the most comfortable mouse i've ever used, good choice there I reckon.

This thread is about gaming mice for gaming.
For gaming, and incidentally photoshop, ABSOLUTELY ANY gaming mouse completely WTF obliterates a "normal" mouse in performance and thus value.

I have the G9 and I use it at full DPI so that the accuracy of my hands movements are better replicated. I simply turned down my ingame AND windows sensitivities to compensate for the extra speed that you wind up with (I do a 360 on my mousepad). It is a nice mouse... I only got it though because my MX518 died and this one was on sale on BestBuy.com for less than another 518.
I have tried both Logitech and Razor. My experience is that Razor makes far more fragile equipment. My MX518 and MX510 both lasted several years each, whereas my Razor barely made it past the one year mark (and I do NOT slam my mice in rage... normally). Edit: My last Razor mouse was a Copperhead. I will hope and assume that the Deathadder was made with far more TLC to prevent an early demise.

Sorry for reviving an old thread guys. o_O;
Anyway just thought I would let you know that I ordered the MX518 today. (Sorry Mole <3) And yes, I did purchase the mouse so long after I initially asked for advice, I just started re-playing FPS's again now, you see. Thanks for the advice everybody. <3 You're all awesome.

BUMPING BECAUSE I CAN.
Bored of my current cheapo mouse (which incidentally is great value, and I would recommend for a only a tenner). Going to buy a Razer Imperator within the next few weeks. Was planning on the getting the Deathadder Respawn, but I thought I would treat myself. Any experiences/reviews are welcome. /hijacked

I have entered a support ticket with regard to the installation errors so I guess i'll have to see if they send anything back but right now I wish i'd stuck with my 1st Gen Deathadder. This accompanied by my faulty keyboard has ensured I won't be buying Razer again. P.S. I think i'll buy an MX518 if I can return my Imperator. UPDATE: Managed to install firmware after completely obliterating every trace of anything Razer from my PC and starting from scratch. Now to see if my issues are resolved. WATCH THIS SPACE (or don't)

FML. First bad reliable (in my opinion) Imperator complaint.
If this does not appear to solve you problems I might just save a tenner and go for the Deathadder. Thanks for the review.
