What do you guys think of it? I had to borrow a netbook for a manufacturing thingy at work, and I kinda like it, compared to XP, which is the last Windows OS I ever really used. It's more sleek looking and runs a bit better IMO. Plus I just like the idea of a netbook, easy to use and take around... so yeah, I'm a mac guy right now, but for college, or maybe after, I'll probably have to get windows at some point (i want to go into engineering) so what do you guys think about 7?

If you are going into engineering, you will be learning Windows based Engineering Software. Some Engineering schools actually require you to get a PC with certain software installed i.e. AutoCad (ie Rose Hulman). If I recall correctly there is currently no AutoCad version that will run on a Mac. As for the other programs I would have to do more research. However, most schools have Engineering Computer labs with which you can use for all your engineering program needs. If you have Microsoft Office on your Mac and you want to use that computer then that will work fine basically anywhere.

After school out in the workplace, unless you take your work home you won't have to worry about getting a PC unless you want to. Essentially I can say that if you already have a computer and your school doesn't require you to obtain one then just stick with what you have.

Basically it comes down to, do you want to do school work in say your dorm and not in the lab.

Yeah which is why the Required laptop I bought through Rose-Hulman was like $3,500.

I like windows 7, upgraded from xp to win7 and it made a big difference for my laptop and the features are pretty cool. But I am no techie...I just like it.

I use lots of different versions of operating systems. Mac, unix and Pc
I really like 7 it address a lot of issues I had with Vista (to chunky was my main one).
I would recommend 7, I never recommended Vista. To swap from a mac though. Not sure, I am comfortable on both platforms so doesn't bother me. There is much more software out there for PC though. Also *cough torr**t* you can get much more pc than mac stuff. If theres a budget - PC. If not. whichever you prefer using I would go for.
Also - I'm sure you know this but just in case. A netbook isn't going to run shit in the world of CAD

Removes some of the annoying features from XP/Vista and increases general ease-of-use.

I find the more advanced features much easier to access and use also.

I dunno, I was just seeing what your thoughts were. Obv i wouldn't be running cad on there, just wondering about the OS. I'm sticking with my mac, and I'll just be in the computer labs, it's no biggie.
