Thumbs down MW2 Graphics look awful

For some reason my Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 graphics look terrible. They look like they are from a game made in 99. I've adjusted every setting to the lowest and no change I also have no lag at all.

This is my game.

Comparison from another pic.

Specs

OS: Windows Vista™ Home Premium Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 4092MB RAM
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Please help, thank you.

WHAT?!?! Well there you go then... what do you expect it to look like if you put all the settings on lowest?!?

First off let me say laptops are very slow for gaming, but your GFX card is ok for a laptop. It will be able to play with "high" or "extra" texture settings (do this, it'll make a massive difference)

It should also be able to play at a near-native resolution, something around 1366*768, with no FPS drops.

Things like shadows and filters ("AA" and "AAF," anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering aka "texture filtering" IIRC) will reduce the FPS a lot and start to feel laggy in places.

As I said, this topic doesn't really make sense. You are complaining that the game looks crap on lowest settings? Well... it will... because lowest settings are there for very old or slow computers. Turn the right settings to the right level and virtually any computer can achieve a good balance between FPS and visuals

This is getting repetitive.

Notice in the topic how I said I set them to lowest and no change. What i meant by that is they look like crap whether it's on high, medium or low. Thanks for the other info but like I said the graphics look awful no matter what I adjust in my settings. ??

You're changing the wrong settings. The texture settings make the most significant changes.

As Abc said, the HD 4650 is perfectly capable of running them on "Extra". I have one myself.

It is possible but unlikely (I'm still assuming your just changing the "wrong" settings) that Catalyst Control Centre (aka CCC. It's basically all the options & menus etc for your GFX card) can over-ride software-set-settings (e.g. the settings you choose in MW2) and use it's own settings.

I've just had a look in CCC, I also have an ATI GFX card, and interestingly there are tabs for AA, AAA, AF, AI and mipmap (!!!) Mipmap is all to do with texture quality, and that's the primary culprit in making your game look so rubbish. Make sure, where applicable, all "use application settings" boxes are ticked (AA and AF) and mipmap detail level should be set to "quality" NOT "performance."

My seconds thought is that in COD4 & WaW there were console commands for essentially bypassing the settings in the menu and forcing the game to use the lowest texture settings. Without looking I can't tell you if this command is still in MW2 and/or/if it works. I'd try the above suggestions first, should that fail I'll investigate this idea further.

Hope that helps
