Exclamation Call of Duty MW2 Skin editing

I need help on how to make skins for CodMW2 as for right now I know how to open up the .iwd files with Pakscape and I have already dragged all of the images out of one of them and I downloaded the .IWI to .DDS converter, but when ever I convert them in the command prompt it always says it failed, but when I right click it to its properties it says it's a .dds file, but when I put it in Photoshop CS5 it says it's not a format it takes, so I downloaded the file thing with the Nvidia and stuff and it still didn't work. Nor did it work on my Paint Shop Pro program. Can any one help me?

I'm pretty sure you need a 3d modeler to edit skins, not CS5.

You can use photoshop etc because objects are made of models (think wire frames) and then they have the textures (which are just images) mapped over the top of them. Of course these aren't just jpegs, the textures use an in-house designed (?) format .iwi (presumably Infinity Ward Image?!)

Your problem here sounds as though it's far more to do with the software and/or how you're using it. I'd suggest watching a youtube tutorial/walkthrough-guide as it will show you step by step how to use the converters. There are loads of tuts on youtube: YouTube - how to make mw2 skins

Errmm.. are we allowed to discuss texture hacks and more importantly, give advice on how to do it?

No breaches of copyright law involved or anything?

Good question,...i dont think so! Hacks, Cheats etc. are not allowed if someone dont know! What is if we just talk about edit some weapon skins or map textures? maybe if u use a cracked version of mw2 (whats illegal too) then the changes of textures are maybe legal or not...dont know....but if he use that online with an original game, then i am really sure that he will get a permban by steam...and then we are guilty, because we told him how to modify his game....

I think its better to close this topic and never talk about this anymore...

Admin/Mod other opinion?

Doing some research shows that texture hacks require a VAC disabler (or high risk of perm. ban) which I'm pretty sure can't be legal.

It's entirely possible he's making changes/additions to the single player and/or spec ops part of the game.

Relavent part of COD4's EULA:

Quote:
New Game Materials shall not contain modifications to any COM, EXE or DLL files or to any other executable Product files.
- New Game Materials may be created only if such New Game Materials can be used exclusively in combination with the retail version of the Program. New Game Materials may not be designed to be used as a stand-alone product.
- New Game Materials must not contain any illegal, obscene or defamatory materials, materials that infringe rights of privacy and publicity of third parties or (without appropriate irrevocable licenses granted specifically for that purpose) any trademarks, copyright-protected works or other properties of third parties.
- All New Game Materials must contain prominent identification at least in any on-line description and with reasonable duration on the opening screen: (a) the name and E-mail address of the New Game Materials’ creator(s) and (b) the words "THIS MATERIAL IS NOT MADE OR SUPPORTED BY ACTIVISION."
- All New Game Materials created by you shall be exclusively owned by Activision and/or its licensors as a derivative work (as such term is described under U.S. copyright law) of the Program and Activision and its licensors may use any New Game Materials made publicly available by you for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to, for purpose of advertising and promoting the Program.
Extremely unfair, but interesting stuff. Particularly:

All ur COD1, COD2, COD4, WaW & MW2 custom mods, maps, textures, ideas, concepts R belong 2 us naow!!!

Dayum.

EDIT: As I said, this is the COD4 EULA. The COD4 disc was in my PC so it was convinient, I cba to put the MW2 disc in and have a lil hunt for the EULA for that.

^^ COD4 would presumably be different due to the fact that they wanted you to make new material, with official mod tools etc.

Hence I said twice that it's COD4, in the hope that'd be a suitable disclaimer for myself

Whilst I agree with you, one would hope they'd have amended their EULA, I really wouldn't be suprised if it's just a generic one that gets applied to all activision games...

Well, yes, but you'd have to make about 50 images and piece them together onto the appropriate skins/frames...It would be much easier to just use a 3d modeler.

And to OneInchWunda, I'm pretty sure IW is OK with skin editing as long as it doesn't edit what OTHER PEOPLE see.

^^You don't get it. Each weapon has a .iwi file which is a 2d image. This image combines every 2d shape that is applied over a "wire-frame polygon" as abc explained. Don't argue something that you blatantly have no experience of.
