Default 3DMark06 Scores.

P.S. Download 3Dmark06 (trial is free, doesn't expire and has the "industry standard" test that everyone uses)

Thought I'd make a new thread for these, instead of cluttering up the PC specs thread.

Suicide run at 3.7GHz, and unlocked to 3 (somehow) cores.

The chip is very unstable when unlocked, and I had to push 1.5V through it to get it to boot in long enough, and last a run of 3DMark. Unlocking the other two cores using this mobo was very easy, although the chip itself only seemed to be using 3 according to CPU-Z, and I reckon 4 cores would have gotten me a higher score.

I will do a stock run soon, just for comparison.

EDIT: I have no life. Here it is.

A 20% improvement isn't too shabby for a 20%~ OC, an extra core, and a slightly OC'ed GPU. I posted temps aswell, just for the hell of it. CPU score was 2465, btw.

EDIT2: Stop resizing my pics.

Bizarre, I hit 15005 Marks too - stock, so a diff spec. Is that some "magic number" or strange coincidence?

VERY strange coincidence.

Funny thing is, I payed just over £400 for my system, and you payed $2000.

True, but my system is stable with those numbers

Does res, AA settings etc make a difference or does it round things up? Had those turned up quite high but benchmarking n00b I am.

To make scores comparable, people use the default settings to test. Turning settings up will reduce performance, and therefore your overall score, I believe.

Fair call, just did that now actually! 19381..... whatever that means.

A bit strange about getting the same score earlier though! During that test I think I was at 1920x1200 with 8xAA and Optimal Anisotropic.

I know, creepy!

19381 is a very good score at stock. Your an an i7-930 and a GTX470, right? I reckon you could push nearly 25k, if you OC'ed.

I was gonna say... 15k for a GTX470 Yes you should always use the default settings

Don't know if anyone saw this post but I thought it was quite good for showing why your CPU score doesn't matter in 3dmark, along with why it certainly does matter IRL. Anyway, some scores:

Athlon X2 @ 2.6GHz & 8600GT stock - 4500~ Pts
Athlon X2 @ 3.1GHz & OC'd till it semi-died 8600GT - 5500~ Pts
Athlon X2 @ 3.0GHz & HD4830 stock - 9500~ Pts
Phenom II X3 @ 2.8GHz & HD4830 stock - 11,232~ Pts
Phenom II X3 @ 2.8GHz & HD4830 medium OC - 12,127~ Pts
Phenom II X3 @ 3.6GHz & HD4830 light OC - 12,752~ Pts

Two things can be drawn from everything in this thread:

1) If you want a much better score get a better GPU not a better CPU, as CPU accounts for a small % of your overall score.
2) I easily have the PC that gets the least FPS in benchmarks.

Oneinch, when did you buy your mobo (and was it from nova?) I ask because mine is revision 1.1 with the SB710 south bridge (which can't unlock cores) whereas yours must be the revision 2.0 with the SB750 (which does have ACC thus can OC more & unlock cores) south bridge?

There is one thing I reckon I'd win... CPU load temperature competition. I reach 31 degrees celsius load (btw oneinch on our mobo CPU temp is "TMPIN1," the "core" temps displayed are the temperature of each individual cores, whereas the thing everyone measures is the overall CPU temp) Also BTW if you hadn't noticed already TMPIN2 is bugged and never budges from around 79 to 81 degrees celsius, the bad news is that if you touch your south bridge you would genuinly think 80~ degrees is accurate.

^^Yes, I knew all of that.

It was bought just before Christmas. CPU-Z shows revision 00, but yes the it does have the SB750.

Also, abc, GTS250 vs. 4830? Surely not 1.5k~ difference. Even OC'ed you only just reach past mine at stock. You are running 4Gb of ram, aren't you?

Default Re: 3DMark06 Scores.

3Dmark is a purely a gaming capability test (hence the CPU test part of it is the CPU rendering, not number crunching) so having an SSD or different amounts of RAM should make no difference. But yes, I have 4GB of 1066MHz DDR2. A GTS250 is equivilant more or less to a 4850. A 4830 should be 80% of the performance of a 4850 if the clocks are the same. 4830 is clocked about 10% slower, so that'd total 72% the performance of a 4850/GTS250. Also bear in mind software can have favourites, the COD engine simply loves AMD/ATI to the point that a PII 940 is faster than an I7 920, whilst SuperPI CPU benchmark loves Intel. So at stock you get:

SM2 - 6000~
SM3 - 6000~

And at stock I get:

SM2 - 4100
SM3 - 4800

Hmm. So that's between 66% and 80% ish. Wow, I said 72%, thinking logically worked alright on this occasion.

As discussed in the post I linked earlier the total score is far more dependant on the SM2/3 scores than the CPU score, hence my score is so much less than yours even though I have an extra core which in gaming should be about (TH did a test with a Q6600 on crysis and roughly the results were: single core = 100%, two cores = 175%, three = 225%, four = 250% i.e. you "lose" 25% per gain per core)

So yeah. Basically I'm not that suprised. The 4830 competes with the 8800GT/9800GT, the 4850 with the 8800GTS/9800GTX/9800GTX+/GTS250. Vaguely annoying but not suprising.

I think my GFX card artifacts at about 650/975 which is lousy 15% considering lots of other people have got standard 4830s well into the 800/1100 range. I played around a bit a while back and I think the 4830s issue is a lack of memory bandwidth which is something you won't be able to make much headway into given memory is the most resistant component to being OC'd and also one of the hottest bits of my card.

Everything is stock besides the Gtx460, and that i have here:

Edit: i haven't dared to OC anything with stock fans on everything, the cyclone build on the Gpu makes me feel a little better about overclocking it

If I spent some time messing around with overclocking and maybe got a custom cooler, I reckon you'd be on the money.

Played around a little with overclocking today (Intel i7 930). Didn't mess about too much, just bumped the base clock up from 133 to 160 giving me a 3520Mhz CPU up from 2926Mhz. The new 3DMark06 score was about 3K higher at 22480 which surprised me a fair bit.

I also compared stock and overclocked with PCMark Vantage. Stock score was 9363. Overclocked score was 10276. The breakdown with PCMark was kinda interesting (obviously not a lot of change for the most part except for the number crunching stuff) but I was surprised to see a boost of about 11 or so FPS in its "GPU Gaming" test with the CPU overclocked (70.62 FPS up from 59.51 FPS).

I also tried overclocking the GPU on the GTX470 but CBF trying to find a sweet-spot - very fiddly business and kept crashing 3DMark06, or the PC completely, during 3DMark tests.

^^That's a very good improvement. Especially after abc's detailed explanation of why the CPU makes much less difference than GPU.

As for the GPU OC'ing, it is often pot luck on how far you can push it (ask abc).

Did you get a 3Dmark11 score?

The ones I've seen so far have been TINY in terms of numbers, I'd be expecting anything between 2 and 4.5k for my system!
