I'm new to recording and just got my hd pvr. I recorded a quality test and rendered it in 720p and uploaded to youtube.
On the video and everything else I try to upload, there's a black bar on the left side, how can I get rid of it? YouTube - HD PVR Quality Test |

There is a YT vid somewhere showing exactly how this is done. I'll try and find it.
Or someone like NinJa should be able to tell you. It's pretty simple IIRC.

Are you using Sony Vegas? If so, just crop it.
Step 1 - Drag the video onto your timeline. Step 2 - On the top left of the video preview tab, click the blue arrow button. Step 3 - Then, click the yellow manila folder and locate your video, and double click your video. This ensures you get the best quality and smoothest render possible. Make sure field order is set to none. Step 4 - Right click your video, and un-check "Maintain Aspect Ratio", and make sure re-sample is DISABLED. Step 5 - On the rightmost end of the video on your timeline, click the icon that says Event Pan/Crop. Step 6 - Make sure all boxes on the left besides the two top arrows are unchecked. Once that is done, drag the box lines down carefully, and slowly to ensure you only cut-out the part you want. After you do this, name it and click the floppy disk on top to save this preset for next videos, like this: http://i51.tinypic.com/amr24j.jpg Step 7 - Save in 720p, using Main Concept MP4. Hope this helps. |

Also, your quality looks pretty bad for a Happauge. Try my quality settings, as your video isn't even in High Definition on YouTube.
Once you do everything above, which includes matching media settings, like so: Step 1 - Make sure everything is like this in project settings. Spoiler: Step 2 - Once all edited has been applied, go to File -> Render As, select Main Concept AVC (MP4), and follow these settings: Spoiler: Set Audio to 48,000Hz and 128 bitrate. Project settings to BEST obviously. Try that and see how it works. Or you could just upload the RAW footage, which is the clip by itself. Also, make sure in the Happauge device settings you set the bit-rate to 13.5, and set the chroma and luma to 0. |

I'm assuming you're using component cables and recording in 720p or greater (I record in 1080i). Try going to to export then a menu will pop-up choose export to iMovie. After you edit it in iMovie save it to disk in the 720p format(Go to share and Export Movie). Don't use the iMovie Option to upload to you-tube. Then up-load using the You-Tube uploader in You-Tube. That's how I do it. You can check my vids for quality comparison. (In my sig).
Edit: Oh and when you watch it in iMovie is the little black line there? Spoiler: If anything doesn't make sense reply back. Last edited by OzballO; 09-26-2010 at 09:33 PM. |

hmm well you can try using the crop function in iMovie, I believe that allows you to crop clips for screen size. If not try the Quicktime export options, ie hdv 720p. I know I can import .mov and .mp4's. I use iMovie 9 so I don't know what iMovie HD allows for importing.

There should be settings to export in HD. When you choose a certain way to export you have the potential to use the options button in the save window. Click that and it brings up a menu in which you can change the various saving options. Resolution being one of them.
