Default TV Question

OK so my parents want to get a small tv for our new sunroom addition. I'm suggesting something that's about 19" and will be under $200. My mom is super electric bill saving conscious blah blah blah. So she doesn't want to keep the tv pugged in all the time. Anyway, to the question, do LCD's need to be plugged in all the time? I thought I had heard somewhere that the tv's needed to stay plugged in to keep viewing quality. Google suxorz so I thought I'd ask the smartest people on the internetz for help.

I don't see how being plugged into the socket would RETAIN picture quality, or being taken out would REDUCE it.

This sounds like a myth.

Well I had heard that keeping it plugged in kept the liquid crystal warm keeping the quality up.

I suppose that sounds legible.

Keeping it plugged in, simply just means that there is always a current running through it. I'm no physics genius, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't generate much heat. Especially not enough to keep the whole screen "warm".

Well that was kind of what I was getting at. I hate electrical physics (eff u Physics 2) hence why I became a civil engineer. So sounds like this may not be an issue then.

Spoiler:

How an LCD TV works
An LCD TV is sometimes referred to as a "transmissive" display. Light isn't created by the liquid crystals themselves; instead, a light source behind the LCD panel shines through the display. A diffusion panel behind the LCD redirects and scatters the light evenly to ensure a uniform image.

The display consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal solution sandwiched in between. The screen's front layer of glass is etched on the inside surface in a grid pattern to form a template for the layer of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals are rod-shaped molecules that twist when an electric current is applied to them. Each crystal acts like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light. The pattern of transparent and dark crystals forms the image.

My thoughts here were since fluids gets denser at lower temps that this twisting action may be affected by said temps? I didn't know if electricity was used while "off" to keep said crystals at a constant temp etc.

My parents turn our TV, VCR, DVD Player, my brothers Xbox...everything off at the mains at night i.e. they unplug it. This has been going on for a year or so and there is no discernible loss in picture quality.
